Returns

You have a cooling-off period of 14 days after you have received the product. Within this period you can register the product for return. The email you received stating that your order is on its way contains a link that you can use to easily and free of charge download and print a return label. Returning is free: we provide the return label and the shipping costs of your return are at our expense. After registering your return, you have another 14 days to send the product back. If you bought multiple items at once, the period starts after receipt of your last item.

How do I return or exchange a product?

  • Fill in the return form within 14 days after receipt. If you are unable to print the return form, please write at least the order number and your name on a piece of paper and include it with your return.
  • Register your return with our customer service. You can do this by sending an email to: info@hoptimaal.nl or by calling 085 -130 1591. Or print your return label yourself via the link in the email titled "Your order is on its way".

Please note: after the 14-day cooling-off period it is no longer possible to return your product.

What can you expect after returning your product?

After receiving your return, you will receive a confirmation from us. This can take 3 working days, but in general we process your return on the day we receive it. We will check your return to see whether your product meets our return conditions and will then get to work on the solution you want.

Do you want your money back?

  • We will refund the purchase amount within 3 working days after confirmation of receipt to the account with which you paid. If you want to receive the purchase amount in another way, please contact us about the possibilities.

After receiving your return, we will send the new product right away. If the product is no longer in stock, we will refund the purchase amount to the account with which you paid.

  • Is the new product cheaper? The remaining amount will be refunded to your account within 3 working days.

Vic Secret

Vic Secret is an Australian hop variety, on the market since 2013. According to the breeder, it gives beer a lot of pineapple and pine, with notes of lime and ginger.

  • BreederHop Products Australia (HPA)
  • Introduced2013 (bred in 2000)
  • ParentageAustralian high-alpha hop × hop from the English Wye College (according to HPA)
  • Typearoma and bittering (dual purpose, according to BarthHaas)
  • Alpha acids14–21.6% (according to BarthHaas, mid-range of the last four years; varies by harvest)

What is it?

Vic Secret™ comes from the breeding programme of Hop Products Australia (HPA). According to HPA, it originated in 2000 from a cross of Australian high-alpha hop with hop from the English Wye College, which itself has English, European and North American ancestors. According to BarthHaas, the father was a male plant from the United Kingdom and Vic Secret has the same parentage as the Australian variety Topaz. The breeding number is 00-207-013.

The variety came on the market in 2013. According to HPA, it is now its second-largest variety. It combines high alpha acid with a lot of oil: according to the current HPA variety sheet, 2.1–3.2 ml per 100 grams of hops.

Aroma and flavour

HPA sums up Vic Secret as 'big pineapple and big pine': a lot of pineapple and a lot of pine, with lime and ginger alongside. BarthHaas distinguishes by the moment of addition. Early in the kettle it gives an earthy character; late in the whirlpool or when dry hopping mainly sweet fruit, with pineapple up front. In the raw hop, BarthHaas smells lime, grapefruit and strawberry, with pepper, ginger, marjoram and resinous pine. A brewer in the variety sheet mentions overripe or spicy pineapple and pine. What you smell, according to BarthHaas, therefore also depends on the moment at which the brewer adds the hops.

Independent research on the aroma is scarce. A Brazilian study from 2025 divided 76 hop varieties into two large groups on the basis of their chemical composition. Vic Secret fell, like Galaxy, in the group with mainly hops of North American origin, with Citra, Mosaic and Simcoe, among others.

Use and similar hops

According to BarthHaas, Vic Secret is a dual-purpose hop: it can bitter, but comes into its own best late in the whirlpool or when dry hopping. HPA recommends it for lager, XPA, hazy pale ale, IPA and West Coast IPA. BarthHaas also mentions stout and porter, and writes that brewers often combine it with other tropical hops, such as Galaxy, Mosaic and Azacca. A brewer in the variety sheet calls it an 'oil monster' and says they use 10–20% less of it than of comparable hops from the American Yakima Valley.

Besides ordinary hops, HPA also offers Vic Secret as a liquid product for dry hopping (Spectrum).

Related hops: Galaxy comes from the same breeding programme and falls in the same chemical group in the study mentioned. BarthHaas also names Galaxy as a tropical hop with which brewers often combine Vic Secret.

A bit of history

According to HPA, Vic Secret was on the point of being dropped, despite the chance of a high yield. HPA's growers in the state of Victoria had always found it a pleasant variety to grow. In 2011 a neighbouring brewery used it in a harvest beer, and according to HPA that proved its worth in beer. The variety then moved on from the trial group and in 2013 it came on the market. On the name, BarthHaas writes that the variety long counted as an 'insider tip', which would explain the name.

How to taste it

A good starting point: an IPA or pale ale in which Vic Secret plays the lead. Smell for pineapple and pine; perhaps you will also find lime or something spicy, such as ginger or pepper. Try putting it next to a beer with Galaxy, from the same breeding programme: there you look more for passion fruit and peach. Hop aroma fades: drink such a beer fresh.

Terms

Hops
The cone-shaped flowers of the female hop plant (Humulus lupulus), which give beer bitterness, aroma and flavour and inhibit bacteria.
Hop oil
The volatile, fragrant oil from hops (according to John Palmer 0.5–3% of dried hops; some modern varieties are higher, Galaxy according to HPA 2.6–3.3 ml per 100 grams), with compounds such as myrcene, linalool and geraniol; it largely evaporates during the boil, which is why brewers add aroma hops late or dry hop them.
Alpha acids
The main bitter compounds from hops (humulones); they dissolve poorly and are hardly bitter, but during the boil they turn into iso-alpha acids, which do taste bitter.
Dry hopping
Adding hops after the wort has been boiled, often during or after fermentation, mainly for a fresh, strong hop aroma.
Breeding programme
The long-term work in which a breeder crosses hop plants, tests the seedlings for years in the field and in beer, and releases only the best as a new variety. Nectaron, for example, was crossed in 2004 and only came on the market in 2020.
