Funky Fluid is a Polish contract brewery from Warsaw, founded in 2018 by Michał Langier, Karol Mizielski and Grzegorz Korcz. They are known for their Gelato series of heavily fruited sours, and they also brew strongly hopped IPAs and imperial stouts. At Hoptimaal you'll mainly find sour beer, IPA and stout.

A contract brewery from Warsaw
In October 2018, Michał Langier, Karol Mizielski and Grzegorz Korcz founded Funky Fluid in Warsaw. It started out as a contract brewery and still works that way: officially the company is based in Warsaw, but depending on the style, the beers are brewed at five different breweries. They call themselves gypsy brewers.
The start was an instant hit. Ratebeer named Funky Fluid the third best new brewery in the world for 2019, and the brewery has been among the highest rated in Poland ever since. According to International Beer Collector, they bought a plot of land near Warsaw to build their own permanent brewery. Sales director Grzegorz Korcz said in 2023 that the brewers travel a lot between locations, because each installation is better suited to certain styles.
Gelato, IPA and imperial stout
Funky Fluid brews all styles, but the focus is on three things: strongly hopped IPAs, sours packed with fruit, and imperial stouts. The Gelato series got the most attention. It comes in roughly three levels: around 5.5% with lots of real fruit, 7 to 7.5% with a thicker mouthfeel and even more fruit, and the 8% XTREME range, smoothie sours so thick that the name gelato makes sense.
On the hoppy side there is Classy, a West Coast IPA with Citra, Comet and Centennial, and Cloudy, the DDH NEIPA from the core range. Funky Fluid has collaborated with Mikkeller, Omnipollo and One Drop Brewing Co from Sydney, among others, and exported to twenty countries in 2023.
Funky Fluid at Hoptimaal
At Hoptimaal we have already had 24 beers from Funky Fluid: 12 sour beers, 7 IPAs, 4 stouts and a barleywine. Most come in 50 cl, a few in 33 cl and 37.5 cl. The strength ranges from 5.5 to 15%. Drink the sours and IPAs as fresh as possible and well chilled. The thick Gelato XTREME beers are best poured in a small glass or shared between two. Heavy stouts, barrel aged beers and the barleywine are for slower drinking and slightly less cold: take them out of the fridge about ten minutes before opening.
